How to get to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo walking (free access)

For those wishing to reach the Tre Cime entirely on foot, without taking the bus or driving along the toll road, there are numerous options.

The best-known trails

  • From Val Marzon: the trail leads to Rifugio Auronzo through beautiful, less-frequented surroundings. It is a demanding route, with approximately 960 metres of elevation gain and a four-hour ascent. Find out more here.
  • From Misurina, Lake Antorno and the toll gate: you can continue on foot along the trails leading up to Rifugio Auronzo, avoiding the toll road by car. Please pay attention to parking restrictions!
Please note: from Malga Rin Bianco, trail 108A climbs towards Forcella Col di Mezzo and reaches the northern side of the Tre Cime along an especially scenic route.
  • Through the Cadini:experienced hikers can follow the Alberto Bonacossa equipped trail, which crosses the Cadini di Misurina and leads to Rifugio Auronzo. The route includes exposed and protected sections and requires experience and suitable via ferrata equipment.
  • From Val Fiscalina (Sesto): the trail leads to Rifugio Locatelli and offers one of the most iconic views of the north faces of the Tre Cime. The route is demanding.
  • From Lake Landro: you can hike up through Val Rienza to Rifugio Drei Zinnen–Locatelli. Alternatively, follow the trail through Val Rinbianco to Casera Rinbianco, then continue along the toll road or the parallel trail.
  • From Rifugio Carducci or Rifugio Comici: the Tre Cime area can be reached via Rifugio Pian di Cengia.

These routes are not simply shortcuts, but proper mountain hikes. Before setting off, always check the difficulty, estimated hiking time, weather conditions and return options. Often, however, the journey is even more rewarding than the destination, revealing valleys, forests, mountain passes and landscapes far from the busiest trails.

The area has several mountain huts, ideal for stopping for a break or lunch during your hike. Always check their opening dates in advance.
