From June 27 to September 30, 2026, Auronzo di Cadore will host a new exhibition dedicated to prehistory and the evolution of life on Earth.
Following the success of the project launched in 2025, which attracted more than 7,000 visitors, the exhibition returns with a new chapter that will take visitors and families on a journey through the period between the extinction of the dinosaurs and the rise of the great mammals of the Ice Age.
The exhibition “Auronzo Tre Cime. From Dinosaurs to Mammoths: The Story Continues ”, promoted by the Municipality of Auronzo di Cadore and curated by paleontologist Simone Maganuco, will unfold between Lake Santa Caterina and the Palazzo Corte Metto Museum, offering a fascinating journey through millions of years of natural history.
The exhibition explores the extraordinary evolution of mammals, from their origins and coexistence with dinosaurs to their dominance after the mass extinction that marked the end of the Mesozoic Era. Visitors will be able to admire life-size reconstructions of some of the most iconic animals of the Pleistocene, including woolly mammoths, saber-toothed cats, cave bears, bison, giant deer, and giant ground sloths.
Along the lakeside promenade, around twenty life-size reconstructions of Ice Age mammals will be on display, while the Palazzo Corte Metto Museum will host in-depth exhibits dedicated to mammalian evolution, the adaptations that ensured their success, and the relationship between humans and wildlife through time.
The exhibition will also explore highly relevant topics such as the impact of climate change on the evolution of life, the domestication of the wolf and the origins of the dog, as well as recent human-driven extinctions.
Further details about the exhibition will be officially presented during the inauguration ceremony scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026, near the Stella Alpina Chalet on the shores of Lake Santa Caterina.
