AURONZO DI CADORE

The Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage

Auronzo di Cadore is the town of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and the three lakes, Lake Misurina, Lake Antorno and Lake Santa Caterina. This charming village, located in the Belluno Dolomites, is an ideal destination for mountain and nature lovers.

The Auronzo Dolomites, part of the UNESCO World Heritage, offer spectacular landscapes with some iconic peaks, such as the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, universal symbol of the Italian Alps. The highest peak of the Tre Cime rises to 2,999 metres and is reflected on the waters of Lake Misurina, the pearl of the Dolomites.

The territory is rich in hiking trails of varying difficulty, such as the famous tour of the Tre Cime, which offers breathtaking views of vertical walls, green valleys and alpine lakes. Auronzo is also a perfect destination for winter sports, thanks to the proximity of the ski area of Monte Agudo. Immersed in unspoilt nature, this pearl of the Dolomites is a place to live in every season, where tradition and beauty meet.

AURONZO DI CADORE

The Dolomites in Auronzo di Cadore

The Dolomites in Auronzo are a true natural wonder. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009, they are a geological masterpiece that captivates everyone with their jagged profiles and pale, luminous color. The composition of the rock makes them particularly crumbly and light in tone, giving them an almost architectural appearance and a remarkable sensitivity to changing light. For this reason, at sunrise and sunset the Dolomite peaks glow in shades of pink and orange, growing increasingly vivid and intense just before dusk. This phenomenon, known as “enrosadira,” enchants the eye in every season. In winter, it creates a striking contrast with the icy tones of the lakes and the bright white snow. In summer, it reveals the dramatic power of color. In autumn, it forms a poetic pairing with the foliage that paints the forests and reflects in the lakes. In spring, it recalls the legend of the rose garden from which the phenomenon takes its name.

The Dolomites, which rose from the waters of ancient primordial oceans, preserve traces of the age of the dinosaurs and have long inspired stories, works of art, and films. In Auronzo and around the world, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo are an icon — a symbol of astonishing natural beauty and, at the same time, a place rich in history and scientific interest, waiting to be discovered.

Discover the mountains that frame the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore. Among them are the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and the Cadini di Misurina.

Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Tre Cime di Lavaredo: alone they are a fundamental part of the iconography of the Dolomites.

Protagonists of historic moments and countless climbs, they are the subject over the decades of stories, paintings, posters, photographs, film footage and television commercials.

Surrounded by numerous trails, they are an ideal destination for all hiking enthusiasts, who can admire their grandeur from every vantage point. More experienced and properly equipped visitors can also tackle climbing routes and via ferratas.

Whatever the chosen activity, the wonder of the place will not let you down: they are one of the international symbols of the Dolomites and the Italian Alps.

Cadini di Misurina

The Cadini rise above Misurina and its lake and can be admired in all their beauty by following the equipped Alberto Bonacossa trail. Less crowded than the classic circular hike around the Tre Cime, this route offers unforgettable views of the Cadini di Misurina and the Dolomites.

The name derives from the word ‘Ciadìn’, which means ‘gorge’ and perfectly describes the conformation of this mountain group. The route is rich in peaks, pinnacles and towers, and the geomorphology of the Cadini makes it possible to descend and ascend the forcelle, following multiple routes.

The highest peak reaches 2,839 metres and is the Cima Cadin di San Lucano.

Monte Agudo

On a family holiday, you sometimes look for an activity that brings lighthearted fun to everyone’s day — and Monte Agudo offers plenty of options.

A ride on the Fun Bob guarantees great entertainment for the whole family, and you can even take home a beautiful souvenir photo free of charge.

At Monte Agudo, you can also cross Tibetan bridges and suspended walkways, and experience the thrill of moving through the trees on ropes and zip lines at the Tre Cime Adventure Park.

For those who wish, bike and e-bike rentals are available, as well as via ferrata kits, giving you the opportunity to explore trails immersed in the nature and tranquility of the Dolomites.

Monte Piana

Monte Piana is located within the Parco Naturale Tre Cime and lies largely within the municipality of Auronzo.

Its summit is flat and surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountains in the Dolomites: the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Monte Cristallo, and the Prato Piazza plateau.

Theatre of battles during the First World War, today it is an ‘open-air museum’ where it is possible to visit the battlefield reconstructed thanks to the Alpini and voluntary associations.
