Auronzo di cadore
Snow Excursions
Framed by the majestic Dolomites and the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Auronzo di Cadore is the perfect place to experience the magic of winter—whether with easy snow walks or more challenging winter hikes.
Whether you’re on vacation with your family, a trekking enthusiast, or just passing through, you’ll find routes here suitable for every age and level of experience.

Auronzo di Cadore and its surroundings offer plenty of winter trails surrounded by nature, perfect for those who love walking in the snow without necessarily practicing demanding sports.
From flat paths along the lakes—ideal for families with children or those who prefer an easier pace—to more adventurous hikes towards the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, every walk offers breathtaking views and unforgettable atmospheres.
Some of the most popular trails start right from the town center, circling the charming Lake Santa Caterina. This path is easily accessible even with strollers, and along the way you can admire distant views of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
One of the most attractive and easy routes is the walk around Lake Misurina, just a few kilometers from Auronzo. The route is flat, suitable even for families with children and the elderly, and offers spectacular views of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo and the Cadini of Misurina. In winter, when the lake freezes over, the atmosphere becomes magical.
Just above Misurina is Lake Antorno, which is smaller and more intimate but incredibly picturesque. The tour of the lake is short (about 15-20 minutes) and perfect for those who want to experience the mountains without too much effort. It is also recommended as a photo stop: the Three Peaks reflected in the water create a postcard view.
For sportsmen and women, one of the most exciting itineraries is the ascent on foot to the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, starting from Lake Antorno or the Auronzo refuge (which can also be reached in winter with snowshoes and proper equipment). It is a hike that requires some training, but it pays off with unique views. In winter the silence and snow make this place even more extraordinary.
A fun experience that is also suitable for younger people is the ascent to Col de Varda. A trail starts from Misurina and leads in about an hour and a half to the Col de Varda hut, with spectacular views of the Dolomites. After a restorative stop, it is possible to toboggan down to the valley: an exciting way to combine snow trekking and snow fun.
Winter temperatures in Auronzo usually range between -5°C and +5°C during the day. Layered clothing, waterproof boots, and trekking poles are recommended.
If you don’t have your own gear, rentals are available in the town center, where you can find trekking poles and snowshoes for snowier trails. Those who are unsure, or who prefer to enjoy the excursion without worries, can rely on local alpine guides—ready to lead families and groups safely through these magical landscapes.
Winter hikes in Auronzo di Cadore are just one of the many experiences waiting for you here.
From skiing days and sledding runs to dog-sled rides in Misurina, winter in this Dolomite destination is an invitation to slow down and breathe in the authentic beauty of the mountains.
